Shit, oh shit. I haven't updated my website in a long time, nor have I done anything for the MegaCon. I'll have something done soon. Drawing a little though, so my style's improving. Keep checking back, and keep me updated on how much you hate me.

[music |Strike Anywhere]

The Unseen and Strike Anywhere show last night was great. The Unseen had an amazing amount of fans and people show up, and their pit was nuts, and I have to say, they did pretty good.

Strike Anywhere didn't have much of of pit going, but many people were up front, and they did amazing, especially when they agreed to play one more song, which was "Sunset on 32nd". At least 20-25 people were on the stage by the middle of the song, and were jumping off like crazy.

A bunch of other things happened during the show that I'm too lazy to the type at the moment, but we did go to the Globe after the show and hung out with a few people there, including Josh, and his friends.

Megacon's soon! Hope to see a few of you there!

[music |the Toasters]

Hey, remember me? Yeah, sure you do. Well, I'm back from a little break from my website and this journal and DAMN, I've got quite a few things to update everyone on; first off being I'll be at the MEGACON 2005 (Orlando, FL), on Saturday, February 26th. I will most likely be hanging around Josh Sullivan's table for at least half of the time, either showing people some comics of mine or entertaining them along with Mr. Sullivan. I look forward to meeting many new people, so that should be fun. Also, as I stated above, I haven't really done many comic-related things lately, but I have sketched A LOT, and made many ideas. Comic books will definitely be off for a while . . . at least until I get a few more people interested in buying them. My art has improved majorly since I started drawing comics (for real) back in the 7th grade, which was a little bit of a year ago; I cannot imagine how much I will improve these years to come (hopefully a lot). Just to top it off, I received a shitload of art supplies for my birthday (which was Jan. 12th! I'm now 14! an old fucker! ha ha, not quite.), and I've been drawing constantly ever since I got them, which was 3 or 4 days ago. Yeah, I'm such a loser. I get excited over getting art books, inks, pens, pencils, erasers, and all that good stuff.

Yeah, if you're still with me, you must seriously be brain-dead, or you have seriously nothing better to do, but that's cool with me. There's quite a few good ska/punk shows coming up!, including :

The Toasters; The Cohorts;
The Supervillains; Rude Squad @ the State Theatre, St. Pete, FL on Feb. 3rd (Thurs.)

Strike Anywhere; The Unseen; The Loved Ones; Neglected Superhero @ the State Theatre, St. Pete, FL on Feb. 5th (Sat.)

Streetlight Manifesto; Voodoo Glow Skulls; Mu330; The Know How @ the State Theatre, St. Pete, FL on Feb. 22nd (Tues.)

AND..

Social Distortion; Backyard Babies;
Street Dogs @ Jannus Landing, St. Pete, FL on March 6th (Sun.).

I saw an amazing show with Against All Authority, The Know How, Rude Squad, and the Cohorts on December 30th. It was great to see how many people came out to see the show. A shitload of fun.

Well, I'm gonna get back to drawing something, and listening to the Toasters, because they're grand.

Later, muthafucka.

[music |Black Flag, Guns N' Roses, Minutemen, and the Specials]

Christmas is right around the corner, so happy holidays everone!

Not many interesting things have been occuring around here, except that I attended the Next Big Thing 4 last weekend, with a few friends, but a few things happened which I regret (like say, no ride home?). Also, I've worked on a few drawings for bands, and I'm going slowly but surely on the short story comic I talked about in the last post.

Just one last lousy week of school before Christmas break, so wish me luck.

Me and my dad finally fixed my electric guitar (which has been broken for like a week?), and I wasted nearly an hour and a half (to get there and back) skating up to the music store to get guitar strings, just to see that THEY AREN'T FUCKING OPEN ON SUNDAYS. Yeah, haha, it sucked. Better luck tomorrow.

Just got 3 copies of the newest Outsider Magazine with two of my comics in it (issue #11, FALL 2004)! Pick up a copy if you live in NY, or any of the other select states. Anyway, I'm working on a 2-3 page comic.. a short story. I hope everyone likes it. I put up a guestbook on my website just yesterday, so please sign it, unless your gonna talk trash.

I don't have much else to say, except that it's fucking 11:34, and I'm gonna be up all night finishing this one page.

How's everyone?

[music |"Fuck World Trade" : Leftover Crack]

Even though I caught a cold 3 or 4 days ago, we had band practice yesterday (2nd one with Drew, our drummer). Anna couldn't make it, so hopefully she'll be there the next practice. We recorded a bunch of stuff, just naming a few : an instrumental, a cover on "Back in Black" by AC/DC with Matt Conti on vocals (oh my god..), and "Homeo Apathy" by Leftover Crack, which we mixed up and did pretty good on. We got a few pictures of us during practice, on a trampoline, and almost falling into Drew's pool (interesting practice.. eh?).

Well, we have word that we *MIGHT* play at Neptunes Lounge on December 3rd with the Grausens. We've still got a lot of practicing to do.

For those going to the Bouncing Souls show on November 17th, I'll see you there, and that goes for Can't Do It/Rude Squad's show on the 13th too.

Also, I updated my lousy site a bit, and put up 2 new comics, so check those out. I also did artwork for the Doughboys, a rock n' roll band from WV :

http://www.purevolume.com/thedoughboys - some mp3s of 'em.
http://www.geocities.com/punkcomics/doughboy1.gif - theres the artwork I did.

That's about it fellas, talk later.

Last night I couldn't get to sleep, so around 1:30 - 2 AM, I got a comic idea done in like 10 minutes. I liked it so much, that I decided to finish the whole thing today. I'm am currently on the 5th page (out of 6, plus cover and back cover). It's a mini comic and will be 25 cents. I haven't made a mini comic since March! It'll be done by Monday, so if you want a copy, send 75 cents to :

Matt Rhodes
1456 Satsuma St.
Clearwater, FL 33756

Also, I'm going to be doing artwork for a 7" record for Soul 4 Sale, which will hopefully be out by January. Anyway, that's about it for now folks!

I finally finished a full page comic for the first time in probably 3 months. This one's for Lera, who kept telling me to make a comic, so here it is :

http://www.geocities.com/punkcomics/drunk.gif

That comic took me nearly 3 hours of straight work, which took a chunk outta my day, but that really doesn't matter because I didn't do anything this whole weekend. The comic will probably be in a few upcoming 'zines.

About 2 days ago, I also made this one :

[music |The Lawrence Arms / Against All Authority]

I haven't written in this journal in a while.. so yeah morons, I'm still alive. I'm not homeless and sucking dick for money yet, but I'd probably make more money doing that than making comics, but Gerard kept complaining that I haven't updated in like a year (2 months at the most?), so hopefully this makes him happy! WOOOOOOOO!

First of all, if anyone is keeping track (i doubt it?), I was accepted to 9 or 10 different 'zines in the past 2 and a half months. It's sorta slowed down, but I think that's a pretty good ending for this year. It's been a little more than a year now of constant drawing (even though, I haven't made a comic in almost a month and a half). The Rigid Pig 'Zine is moving slowly, and I don't know if I will make the 3rd issue anytime soon.. THANKS A LOT FUCKERS.

I have no flippin' clue when I'm making another comic. Prolly this weekend or upcoming week. So when I post it, you can stare at your small computer screen and say to yourself "What the fuck is this guy trying to get at? He's not funny!" (see, that lame joke wasn't even funny).

Anyway, I started a band with this girl named Anna. We're called the Profane. We have a show @ neptunes lounge on october 29th which I doubt we'll play because we're either :

1.) too lazy
2.) had forgotten about it
3.) dead

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this little conversation I've had with you, but I'm not done talking yet, so don't x' out of my blog, you inconsiderate jerk.

I have a question - STU, WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?
and another - What does anyone and everyone think of my comics?
and one last one - why are you still reading this?

Anyway, I had my fun with my oddest post yet, but hey, I bet you didn't.

I'm trying to do something different for the 3rd issue of the Rigid Pig 'Zine. For those who don't know what the RPZ is, let me explain. It is a 'zine full of articles and short stories on various topics, interviews with comic artist/bands/more, comics, and much more. The last two issues were around $2 and $3. For this issue, I'd like to only charge $1, but to do so, I need people to pay for advertising in some way. Here's what I'm thinking (if you've got a suggestion, please tell):

Business card sized - $5
Quarter page sized - $10
Half page sized - $15
FULL PAGE Sized - $20

I'm hoping for around 150 copies to be made. This issue will be around 24-28 pages. ALSO, I'm looking for submissions. If anyones interested in doing anything for this 'zine, please let me know. I'm not a picky motherfucker, in fact I actually encourage EVERYONE to send in submissions BUT there's a few things I don't want (racist, sexist, prejudice in anyway..).

You know, if no one ever takes action and actually takes time to build this 'zine, it'll never get anywhere and I'll end up saying "fuck it" and giving up. It's not my 'zine, it's yours. I only contribute a small amount of my work, and you should contribute some of yours.

[music |Anti-Flag / Against All Authority]

The weekends here - FINALLY!

Today was well.. interesting. I went to school, came home, played guitar, worked on a song, listened to music, then slept. Then I went to my brothers baseball game and hung out. Yes, I know, very exciting, eh?

Well, whatever. Anyway, Al Simpson is making a 'zine called the REBEL VOICE and I'll have a never before seen comic in that. The 'zines free and around 500 - 1,000 copies will be made, so hit him an IM at Alt Rocker 88. This will be the 5th 'zine I will be in this month. I'm not gonna go into explaining it because I doubt anyone reading this gives a shit.

Josh Sullivan's band, CAN'T DO IT, will be playing this show:

Friday, Sept. 10th, 2004
@ The Neptune Lounge
13 South Safford Avenue
Tarpon Springs, Florida 34689
(727) 943-5713

Doors at 6, Show starts at 7pm
$5 at the door, $3 for 21 and over

Bands:
The Game Show
Can't Do It
Tanktop USA
Vindicated Youth
Eli Cash

So, go check them out. They are also recording a 7" soon, which will be really really cool. Oh! I did two flyers for this 'Zine Ad 'Zine thing. Here they are:

[music |Pipedown, Mighty Mighty Bosstones]

The Tsunami Bomb, Lawrence Arms, Pipedown, and Orange Island show was great! I went with my friend Matt Conti and Shaun Bloodworth (and met up with Josh & Jen, and his band)

That band Orange Island was pretty boring and I could tell not many people enjoyed their whole set.

but, as soon as Pipedown got on stage, they played Losing the Sum and started the pit up pretty fast. Ean, the singer of Pipedown was all over the place. Jumping off the drum stand, and guitar amps. In between one of their songs, Ean said "After this show, we get 3 days off tour! And we're spending it here, in St. Pete! So, who's gonna be the lucky girls who get to join us?", right away my friend, Matt Conti raised his hand, and Ean saw him and started laughing and said "Yeah, that guy looks like he can do it". So right after Pipedown, the Lawrence Arms got on stage with their opening song "On With the Show". According to Josh, they played 13 songs, one of which was dedicated to him and Jen.

BOTH the Larry Arms and Pipedown did great jobs.

I met Ean of Pipedown and we talked a little bit, and so I gave him some comics and talked to him for a bit, He was a really nice guy.

So after 3 bands, the last, Tsunami Bomb came on stage. Everyone was up for them, but the pit was dead, but that didn't matter, because I had boughten a split CD with the Lawrence Arms and 2 pins, and had gotten a bunch of free stuff, so I didn't wanna get it all bashed in the pit. So, in the middle of Tsunami Bomb, I ended up seeing Brendan Kelly and so I talked to him for a minute or two, giving him some comics too.

Well, yep, that was it. I would explain more, but eh.

[music |Soul 4 Sale]

LOTS has been going on. I'm going to be in the STOMP magazine, the Burn Brandon 'Zine, AND the Outsider 'Zine!

For those of you who don't know, STOMP is a brand new 'zine edited by Ali Evette Kalinoski. It's put together with FULL sized 40 pages! It contains a bunch of comics, reviews on various things, short stories, articles, and A LOT more. It's about $2, and you can buy one (or trade) from her. IM her AIM screen name : PinkEvette

Burn Brandon is probably known to those who live in the St. Pete, Clearwater, Brandon area. It's a FREE 'zine, so grab one quick, because only around 250 copies are made?

The Outsider 'Zine is a pretty big 'zine in NY. Contains reviews, music-related stuff, artwork, and more. A couple thousand copies are made of each issue.

http://www.outsiderzine.com

That's it on the 'zine stuff! I sent 4 copies of the new Chaotic Duo out to be reviewed. I'm still waiting for replies from 3 of them. Soul 4 Sale recorded 3 new songs recently and they KICK ASS! Check them out on purevolume :

http://www.purevolume.com/soul4sale

It's getting close to the 'zine fest (stand together #2!) again!

Ahh! Why am I posting so damn late? Why am I posting at all?

Well, I guess I have a good reason to.

About 5 minutes ago, I FULLY FINISHED The Chaotic Duo : Roaming the Arctic. It's a comic book I've been working on since July 7th constantly.

Here's some info on it and also on the Chaotic Duo #2 (which I STILL HAVEN'T GOTTEN PRINTED!!!)

THE CHAOTIC DUO (mini series) - Roaming the Arctic

12 pages (not including front/back cover and inside covers) - thick stock paper cover (color paper, b&w print) - $1.50 ($2 postage paid)

The Chaotic Duo #2 - 16 pages (not including front/back cover and inside covers) - thick stock paper cover (color paper, b&w print) - full size comic format - $3 ($3.50 postage paid)

Or get both for $5 postage paid (and get a free Chaotic Duo 1" round pin!)

The Chaotic Duo : Roaming the Arctic book will be printed up tomorrow, but only 4 copies, which will be sent to reviewers, then I will post parts of the reviewers quotes on the back of the book (for further printings) It should be available to everyone soon enough.

The Chaotic Duo #2 .. I have no clue. I need to go to Kinkos and get it all shrunk down (it's on artboard). It should be all done by the time school starts up again.

So that's all the comic talk. Blah blah blah. In other news, I got 3 CDs [Treephort, Mustard Plug, and Assorted Jelly Beans] for 15 bucks altogether from Josh Sullivan 2 days ago. Thanks buddy!

No one ever posts comments in my livejournal anymore.. I seem lonely. I haven't talked to Stu in a long time. Damn.

[music |Bouncing Souls]

I am working on a brand new comic with the Chaotic Duo! It's more of a graphic novel-like book. I'm working on penciling the 6th page right now (5 pages and the introduction page with the copyright info and greetings are finished) I'll have it done by the end of July, so if you want a copy, tell me. It'll be around $3, but I don't know for sure yet. It's going to have a special color cover.

Anyway, a few friends of mine made me some buddy icons/livejournal icons recently (TJ, Marybeth, Shaun). They are up on my website, so if you want one. I also did some artwork for Hooray For Losing, an indie band recently -

http://www.geocities.com/punkcomics/hfl.gif

http://www.geocities.com/hoorayforlosing/index.html

I got some flyers copied too, so I have some of those to give away with orders. For anyone interested in doing something for the Rigid Pig Zine #3, please tell me, we need people to do stuff, but it won't be out for a while, since I need money to print it and I need to sell the Rigid Pig Zine #2.

Also support our distro, the Pizza and Booze Distro -

http://www.pizzaandbooze.cjb.net

There's a brand new comic of the week up (the police officer one). I thought of 4 great ideas for comic strips a few days ago, so I should be making them soon (1 of which was done, the police one)

Anyway, this is pretty much it for now.

Just got back from the show.. I first got there at 7:20 (the show started at like 8:25). As soon as I got out of the car, I met everyone in Empty Wallet [Sterl, Freddy, Juan, Gelo] (and Heather, Sterl's girlfriend). I swear, these guys are some of the coolest and nicest guys I've ever met. I talked to them most of the show.

Well, the first band, Crime Speak was really good (especially for their 2nd show!) and they did a great cover on minor threat and anti-flag.

The second band, Chubby Tuff was amazing. The 2nd greatest band there. EVERYONE came for them.. the sad thing was that everyone left after them too...

The third band, Empty Wallet was most definitely the best band there. I feel kinda bad that only like fucking 5-10 people watched them, and they came all the way from Miami to play. Also since Fang Shooey and No Cash wanted a ridiculous amount of money for playing for like 15 minutes (since Heather had to pay her own money). Also they had to find somewhere to stay, and found no where. Damn. We'll definitely get somewhere better to play next time (and get more kids to show up)

The fourth band, No Cash was HORRIBLE. The singer was either drunk or doing some drugs because he was acting pretty stupid. The first song sounded metal/rap-like and the PA system and amps sounded like shit .. since they weren't leveled out. The singer also sang pretty damn bad. The funny thing was that only 4 or 5 people watched them (seriously)

The fifth band, Fang Shooey was alright. I only heard the first two songs because it was 12:20 and I didn't want to stay around much longer.

Overall the show was really good, but NO ONE was there! Like 15 people showed up! Seriously! 15 tickets priced at $7 isn't even enough to pay the bands.

Oh well, sorry to EW for the trouble of finding a place to stay and also that not many people showed up. The next time you come to St. Pete, we'll get a huge ass show set up for you guys.

[music |Talking on the phone with Matt Conti.. YAY!]

Well, me and my friend Shaun bought bus passes today and went around downtown and walked for a goddamn 6 and a half hours. It was fun though. The Empty Wallet show has some new info and one of the bands dropped out but was replaced.

July 7th at 7 PM - No Cash, Empty Wallet, Fang Shooey, Crime Speak, Chubby Tuff - at Boomerz Boiler Room, 6990 Seminole BLVD, Seminole, FL 33772 - $5 ($7 for kids under 21)

This whole weekend was crazy. I was at largo mall (a bunch of strip malls..) on Friday ... just walking around and talking to people I knew for like 3 hours. Then on Saturday, we went back to the same damn mall and saw Spider Man 2, which was pretty rad. Then yesterday, I went to Coachmen park at 5:30 and did absolutely NOTHING, except listen to 2 CDs I had broughten (suicide machines and the toasters) until 9:30, which was when the firework show occured. Right after the show ... it took about 20 minutes to get to the car ... but it was like not even 100 feet from us. So when we get in the car, we stayed in the same spot for 30 minutes. Got home and went to bed.

Then today, me and Shaun hung out. Uh, if anyone is going to Empty Wallet/No Cash show, you might see me handing out comic flyers there or talking to a bunch of people.
